I made this informational brochure to inform the audience on the history of an obscure object (does not pair alongside an exhibition). Additionally, the project was different as we also had to research unique pamphlet folds and consider how we were going to fold/separate the sections (with provided examples).
The freedom that this project gave allowed me to learn about the history of 5 objects but, the only one that I did a deep dive into was Googly eyes (with cones, hot sauce, Rubik’s cube, and stress balls as other choices). It seemed to have the most interesting/mysterious past, and as I had just seen the cinematic masterpiece, Everywhere Everything All At Once, I had a clear reference for attractive visuals.
I made two attempts, the first for the class and the second attempt, I tried to incorporate illustrations instead of images. The copy text was compiled by me from a multitude of articles, primarily https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-googly-eyes-essential-crafts for both versions. During the first attempt, I tried to do a Xerox/copy print effect with all the images, and use fun typography and colors. The refresh attempt featured an illustration style popular on Social Media, as well as more clean and distinct color and font usage.
