ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR
The Martin Luther King Jr. Editorial Illustration was originally made to pair alongside a blacklivesmatter.com article titled "MLK's Dream. Our Fight."
I made the illustration during the peak of the BLM movement, and after Martin Luther King Jr. Day in early 2021 as one of the initial projects in my Illustration course. It was my first time using Adobe Illustrator, so initially I meant to put some key words from MLK Jr.’s famous "I Had a Dream" speech inside of the shapes forming his face and body, though I couldn't figure it out. In the end, I did fall in love with Illustrator because of this project, but now I treat the illustration as more of a poster design more than an Editorial Illustration.
Originally, the Editorial illustration was entirely Black & White until I was recommended to add a bright color to push the illustration forward. I also made another version with different text and a larger MLK Jr. to boost hierarchy, readability, and distinctness on shelves or larger distances.
